Zoya Wins Gold at World Championship in Athens

Congratulations to Zoya, aged 11, who competed in the WKU Martial Arts World Championship last week, winning a gold medal in Korean style martial arts for England. More than 1300 elite martial artists representing 38 countries took part in the competition. She also won a bronze medal in the sparring U13 category, which includes kickboxing, full contact, light contact and point fighting.

Zoya has been offered a place in the national team representing England at the World Championship in Austria next year.

Commenting on her achievement, Zoya said: “I loved making new friends and experiencing the highest possible level of martial arts. The most exciting bit was standing on the podium with the English flag, with the national anthem playing.”

This is a huge achievement and testament to Zoya’s hard work, commitment and dedication to the sport. Everyone at St Mary’s is very proud of her.
