U14s Serve up More Wins!

The U14s provided us with a fantastic afternoon of tennis against Bryanston on 17th May. The As gave us some nail-biting rallies, with excellent teamwork and beautiful shots. Mush and Gaby took three out of three sets, Ioana and Charlotte managed to take the set of the 1st pair 6-5 after a really close battle and win against their own pair to take two out of three sets. Clem and Tess redeemed themselves with a win against the 3rd pair to give us an overall 6-3. Brilliant result against some very strong Bryanston players.

The Bs, all playing with new partners, played some great tennis all-round. Penny and Alice started really confidently and took a set off the first pair 6-1 and off the 3rd pair 6-0. Jimmy and Emilia took a set and narrowly missed out on a second set by 1 point at deuce, 5-5. Mollie and Lily took 2 sets out of 3 to win the match 5-4. Great start to some new partnerships!

At Wells Cathedral School on Saturday 19th, again the teams did not disappoint. The As began in earnest but were 3-3 after the first two rounds. There was all to play for in the last round against their own pairs and all the girls stepped up their game.  Ioana and Charlotte had a nail-biting finish to win theirs 8-6. This gave St Marys a 6-3 win – fantastic matches, fantastic spirit and fantastic weather!

The Bs stayed cool and calm, despite the temperatures. Great returns of serve, consistent serving and some real determination on court proved to be a winning combination.   Well played to everyone, for delightful, relaxed but competitive tennis and great sportsmanship.
