U14 North Dorset Netball Tournament – Victory!

For the second time this week we hosted an Area netball tournament, this time it was the U14 team who were competing for a place to go through to the County Finals. The team have been working incredibly hard all term, building up to this event through training and, despite inevitable nerves, felt confident in their own play and what they were capable of.

During the first match we played, Gillingham made us work hard to get goals on the board and then once we found our flow down court with Fleur, Helena, Charlotte all working well with each other, we secured a 9-2 win. Next up was The Gryphon and the team worked incredibly hard on their timing and movement into space to enable the ball to flow down the court to our fabulous shooters Alice and Poppy, who made some superb shots and again we won 9-2. Our third game on the trot took its toll and we started off a bit messy, but with some great tips and interceptions from defence, Iona, Munashe and Immy we managed to stay one goal ahead of Sturminster Newton right through the game to finish with a win. After a short break, we faced Bryanston and they proved very quick and dominant in the shooting circle giving us our first loss.

Despite this we were through into the semi-finals where we faced the winners of the other section, Sherborne Girls. These were tipped to be the winners of the tournament, so we had nothing to lose and with that and a quick pep talk, the team gave their all and played the best netball of their lives…. everyone put in 100% effort and were confident, dominant and won 6-5, meaning we were into the Final and with that, definitely going through to the County tournament.

We faced Bryanston again in the final and although we were drawing at half time, the previous game took its toll and we needed to sub and Bryanston took the advantage and won.

We are so pleased for the girls as they really deserve their place at County and we are in full training for the next two weeks to prepare the best we can to challenge the best teams in Dorset.
