U14 GSA Netball Tour weekend

On Friday last week the U14 Netballers headed off to Shropshire to take part in the annual GSA netball tournament weekend at Condover Hall. By lunchtime the girls were clambering up a climbing wall and settling into their dorms, before going to a Q & A session with England player Leah Kennedy.

On Saturday, the netball tournament began. 18 teams are put into three mixed groups and 5 matches are played. Our St Mary’s team put in every effort to maintain possession and sink goals, winning 2 out of the 5 games. We had some excellent passages of play and some superb shooting to ensure we went through as 4th in our group.

After more activities in the afternoon; a bit of Zorb football, a team talk after finding out the team had qualified for the ‘Cup’ competition and a boogie in the evening, the St Mary’s were ready and motivated for the next day’s tournament.

The girls were fired up for the first two games of the day and, with a win after the first match, the semi-finals were within reach. The semi-final match was tough and despite every effort, they were pipped at the post, to mean that they were in the 3rd/4th play-off match. The team played their hearts out in the last match but we were unable to secure the win. However, finishing 4th in the Cup event and 10th out of 18 teams was a superb result and the team learnt an enormous amount playing a variety of different teams from around the country, which has prepared them well for the season ahead and the North Dorset Tournament coming soon.
