U12A and U13A Netball v Clayesmore 24th February 2018

The U12 team travelled to Clayesmore Prep on Saturday, excited about the challenge of competing against an experienced side.

St Mary’s started the game well, creating plenty of attacking opportunities and limiting the opposition to only a few goals in the first quarter. Clayesmore were passing the ball well in the mid-court but our dogged defensive duo of Marta and Belen were managing to intercept a lot of their passes, thus limiting the amount of shots Clayesmore could have at our goal.

The second quarter carried on much in the same vein, with the St Mary’s girls showing determination, however not quite managing to create a goal scoring opportunity. This goal scoring opportunity finally came in the third quarter with some excellent build up play by Frankie and Eliza, leading to Mia scoring with her first shot of the game. The fourth quarter brought about another opportunity to score with this time Eliza scoring her first goal for the school. Despite the loss, it is clear that the team have made massive amounts of progress this year and I am certain they will continue to gel as a team as we head in to the latter stages of the season.

It was cold and windy at Clayesmore but the sun was shining. The U13A netball team arrived keen to warm up and get their match underway. The girls started off enthusiastically, but just couldn’t find their way through the Clayesmore defence. Maddie moved from GD to GK and began to make some good interceptions and the game began to flow. The Girls got the ball through the Clayesmore defence and into the D, but could not quite get the ball in the net. After a fantastic 4th ¼ of great play from Olivia T-T and good interceptions from Maddie H the final whistle blew. The girls worked hard throughout the match and were playing well by the end and, despite their frustrations about not being able to score a goal, the girls came away smiling and positive that they knew where improvements are needed. Special mention to Toma H-J for filling in at the start of the match until Agatha was able to get on court.
