Tennis v Sherborne Girls Saturday 28th April

The U13 As began their season in style! Welcoming back Maria into the squad from last year, alongside Alma and Ines as new pupils this year, it was lovely to witness the excellent camaraderie and support that all the players offered each other throughout the afternoon.

Aggie and Maddy persevered against some very good players with great positive attitudes and learnt lots to take into the next match. Maddy showed some quick reactions at the net producing some good volleying and Aggie fought consistently on the baseline, getting the ball back under pressure. Alma and Ines won 2 out of their 3 sets convincingly, whilst Olivia and Maria kept the suspense up for the spectators by taking 2 out of their 3 sets to 5-5 and winning both deciders! Brilliant! They held their nerve under pressure and played to their opponent’s weakness really well. Olivia’s return of serves and Maria’s consistent serving were their secret weapons! They truly deserved their win today, huge congratulations om a FAB performance!

Our U13 Bs and Senior teams were less lucky against strong Sherborne opposition. For many of the girls on the U13 B Team, this was their first ever tennis match, but based on their performance, one would have never guessed this was the case. The girls all played brilliantly, showing their consistency throughout with solid groundstrokes and some accurate serves. Every pair showed massive progress throughout the afternoon, winning 15 games overall against tough opposition.

The Senior 1sts, 2nds and 3rds had some fantastic rallies throughout the 3 sets each pair played with winning shots on both sides. All pairs improved through the afternoon; Caro & Izzy had the longest game ever, going back and forth with deuce and Mary and Grace had some really good games and points in the 2nds. Sherborne are a strong team to play which always improves our own teams performances which was visible in the quality of the rallies.
