Students Reach out to Gillingham Food Bank

LV student Tabitha E spent time in the run-up to Christmas this year organising for members of her school community to donate to the local Food Bank.

“I am a firm believer that charity starts at home, so this year I decided to reach out to the Gillingham Food Bank and find out from them what I could do to help,” says Tabitha.  “I was given a list of children who needed some small presents and was tasked with finding willing Father Christmas elves within our school community to choose and donate these gifts.  As well as this, I was asked to organise a collection of seasonal treats for some Christmas hampers for the local community.”

Tabitha set about letting parents, staff and pupils know about the opportunity to donate, and was amazed by the generosity and eagerness to help.  “I was delighted by the amount of food and gifts that we were able to give the food bank to help the people who need it most,” said Tabitha.  “It has been a very rewarding experience working with the Food Bank and has certainly put a smile of my face knowing I am adding a little bit of magic to somebody’s Christmas, I hope this will be the first of many events I work on with the Food Bank.”
