St Mary’s Moving Forward

Having had a couple of weeks to settle into her new role, our Acting Head, Sarah Matthews, has her sights set firmly on the future. With a strong and talented Senior Leadership Team and staff behind her, Mrs Matthews is dedicating her time to continuing to ensure high academic standards whilst keeping Christ at the heart of the school. In keeping with the ethos of Mary Ward, the girls at St Mary’s will be nurtured as individuals so that they can grow, flourish and succeed throughout their time here.

Mrs Matthews has significant experience in leading schools through change, having worked as part of the senior leadership team at Harrow Hong Kong to stabilise the school during its early years and increase numbers. Mrs Matthews embraces the challenge of moving St Mary’s from ‘good’ to ‘outstanding’ academically and is an advocate of the ‘stretch and challenge’ approach to education.

Our Acting Head will be supported in her new role by the GSA (the Girls’ Schools Association) and AGBIS (the Association of Governing Bodies of Independent Schools) who are extremely encouraging and will offer the guidance needed for St Mary’s to continue to grow and flourish.

St Mary’s has a strong future ahead of it and we can be bold in our vision for the girls. Mrs Matthews and her staff continue to develop the school’s vision for single sex education which embodies traditional values and a strong moral code within a purposeful environment which empowers our girls for life.
