St Mary’s Hosts Primary Swimming Gala

St Mary’s welcomed 4 local primary schools today to compete at their annual primary Year 5 &6 school swimming gala along with staff and parent spectators.

It was a fun filled event, bursting with energy, determination and a lot of cheering!

St Gregory’s Marnhull took away the winning trophy but congratulations go to each and every swimmer involved in the event.

Despite a few initial nerves, the following girls swim their first gala representing St Mary’s today at the annual Primary Schools’ Gala: Esme W, Bethan H, Darci N, Sophia F (Team captain), Charlotte S, Roussanne B and Annie H. Several schools had a two-week half term this year so there were a few familiar faces missing, but we had super visitors from Wardour, St Marys Marnhull, St Gregory’s and Stower Provost.

The St Mary’s girls have trained hard to be selected for the swimming team and their training paid off with some outstanding individual results. A special mention must go to Esme Williams and Bethan Harvey for winning the 25m backstroke in their respective age categories, the Year 6 front crawl relay team who put all of their efforts into winning the race and Sophia F who not only was a great role model for her team as Captain but also competed in the challenging butterfly events. Although she found it tough, she showed great grit and determination.

The girls not only showed their ability off as individuals but also demonstrated amazing team spirit and pride.
