Oxford University Trip

Before Christmas, subject teachers were asked to nominate girls working above expectations in their subjects and showing strong intellectual curiosity for a trip to Oxford University. This group of UV and LVI girls were invited to visit Merton College, encouraging their aspiration when it comes to university applications and demystifing the Oxbridge application process. We were met by staff and students from Merton, who talked about the need to work hard and show intellectual curiosity beyond the scope of normal lessons. They are looking for students who want to work hard and can think!

After a tour of the college, we were invited to lunch in Merton’s medieval dining room, before walking across town to the Pitt Rivers natural history museum. Here the girls were meet by museum staff who talked about different ways of studying and preserving specimens – looking at everything from a barn owl skeleton to a pickled octopus from 1890 and a collection of live cockroaches!
