Outstanding A Level Results

Pupils at St Mary’s Shaftesbury have achieved the best A Level results in four years, with 22% of girls achieving three or more A*/A grades and 43% of all grades awarded being A* or A. The most commonly awarded grade was an A. 14% of the girls were in receipt of Oxbridge offers and all have achieved or exceeded their grade requirements.

Mrs Maria Young, Headmistress of St Mary’s, said, “It is a genuine delight to see the excellent results achieved by our class of 2019. The girls’ hard work and the unstinting support of their teachers has really paid off.”

Economics and Italian had an excellent year, achieving 100% A* grades. Other high-performing subjects, with 100% A*-B grades, include Chemistry, Chinese, History of Art, Photography, Psychology and Religious Studies.

There were some outstanding individual performances and success stories. The Oxbridge offer-holders will take up their places to read English, Philosophy and Modern Languages in the autumn. Other subjects being studied include Neuroscience, Economics, History, Physics, Architecture, Graphic Design, Art and Politics with International Relations, at universities including Durham, Edinburgh, Exeter, UCL, Warwick, Manchester and Birmingham in addition to Art colleges including Camberwell and Falmouth, and Dance at the prestigious Fordham College in New York.

Mrs Young added, “The most important thing is that these grades open the doors to an exciting future. Almost all girls have achieved a place at their 1st choice university and I am thrilled to see them now moving on to the next stage of their lives. Our huge congratulations to them, and we very much look forward to seeing where their adventures take them.”
