North Dorset Netball U16 Tournament Hosted by St Mary’s

We welcomed the North Dorset U16 area teams for their tournament on Tuesday, with 9 teams competing for the top 3 places to go through to County, it was all to play for.

Despite the home advantage, our team faced some very strong opposition from the start with Gillingham. Defence worked incredibly hard, but they nipped ahead and we could not bring it back despite finding our rhythm in the second half and some great shooting by Cassia and Eloise.

We next faced Sturminster and gained momentum in all areas to win the game 12-1, with fantastic interceptions by Ollie, Electra and Tallulah and superb passages of play from defence to attack, this gave us a boost for the final section game against Bryanston. The result of the game was secured in the first half, where sadly we lost a couple of attacking plays and Bryanston went ahead. This makes it very difficult to come back from in a short game and despite a determined and energised return to the court after half time, with Ella and Sara-Kate pinging all over the court, we could not pull back the goals from the start and our tournament ended there.

The team were a joy to be with all afternoon and showed what the true spirit of the game is as they sat and watched the finals of the tournament with support and applause to those teams that did better than them on the day. Watch out for the netball term though, we will be wanting to challenge those teams again!
