Kicking-Off 2018 with Cross Country at Bryanston

Twenty-two girls from St Mary’s took part in the Bryanston Ken Bailys Cross Country on Thursday 11th January, in beautiful but chilly conditions. The Junior team ran first, showing great confidence, grit and determination.

Home first for St Mary’s in 74th place (in a race of 180+ runners) was Sofia who began strongly and maintained her pace well throughout! Mia D, Olivia TT, and Bella were hot and on her heels with all three finishing very strongly. Marta, Scarlett, Valentina, Willa, Aggie, Emily and Angelika also ran brilliant, well paced races. Congratulations to them all for their first run back so soon after the Christmas break, especially Angelika, who stepped in at the last minute.

In the Inters, Theo was outstanding, coming home in 22nd (in a race of 150+) with fantastic endurance and pacing. Close behind her were Fleur and Rosanna, who had the run of her life and beat her personal best by more than a minute! Alice and Jimmy pushed each other all the way round the course, both with brilliant sprint finishes. Olivia, Maddy, Lara, Molly, Penny and Ana gave great effort in their personal performances.

It was a pleasure to take so many keen, able and team-spirited girls to the first meet of 2018. Fantastic start to the new year – well done everyone!
