Fauré’s Requiem at Wimborne Minster

On Thursday 22nd February the St Mary’s Chapel Choir was joined by singers from six local prep schools for a performance of Fauré’s Requiem which they had all been rehearsing for many weeks.  Plans for this wonderful concert began nearly a year ago, after the very successful Mini Messiah event held at St Mary’s with just two prep schools.  Director of Music Derek Harris contacted as many schools as he thought he could squeeze into the Minster to see if they would like to rehearse the Requiem independently during the autumn and winter in preparation for the collaborative concert in early Spring.

With only the morning dress rehearsal to practice working together, the boys and girls from Sandroyd, Knighton House, Hanford, Hazlegrove, Port Regis and Farleigh schools worked incredibly hard.  Their own Directors of Music had prepared them all fantastically well, and they all performed in full and enthusiastic voice.  The piece was lead by the senior girls in the St Mary’s Chapel Choir, with Jess, Megan and Alexa singing beautiful solo parts.

The Minster was packed with Heads, governors and family and friends from all the schools who delighted in this super musical collaboration.
