Exceptional GCSE Results

Congratulations to our UV pupils, who have distinguished themselves with their GCSE results, published today – even managing to improve on last year’s outstanding GCSE grades. Some highlights from this year’s superb statistics are as follows:

  • Almost a third of grades awarded were 8/9 (A*)
  • More than half the grades were Grade 9-7 (A*-A)
  • Three quarters of grades at 9-6 (A*-B)
  • Four girls gained straight 9/8/7 (A*/A) grades

Girls achieved 100% A* in French and in Spanish, following 100% A* achievements in French A level last week – bucking the national statistics for a decline in uptake and standards for French. Physics, Chemistry, Drama, Art and Photography also gained a clean sweep of top grades.

These GCSE results come on the back of the School’s best A Level grades in four years, with all 14% of girls who received offers from Oxford and Cambridge, gaining their places and exceeding their grade requirements.

Mrs Maria Young, Headmistress of St Mary’s Shaftesbury, said: “This has been an excellent set of GCSE and A Level grades, the best for some years, and we are extremely proud of the girls and staff for all their hard work.”
