Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Success

Twenty one girls from UIV successfully completed their first stage of their DofE Bronze Award expedition training last Sunday. The training day was split into 4 sections and covered many aspects and requirements of a typical expedition. This included demonstrations and talks given by two of our Gold DofE Award participants Cicely Willis and Olivia Willis regarding what an expedition involves, showing how to pack a rucksack and how to put up a tent. The rest of the day was spent doing a basic map reading course and interesting discussions about planning menus, keeping warm and dry and what kit is required to survive a DofE expedition.

Congratulations to the following girls who have recently completed their awards:
Bronze: Tabitha E, Luisa O, Jackie C, Alexa G, Olivia O, Veronica O. Silver, Georgia V, Grace G, Felicity W, Daisy M, Freya T. Gold, Freya P.

During the 2016/17 academic yer St Mary’s girls gave 1417 hours of voluntary work to the community as part of the DofE efforts. The social value of these hours has been calculated by the Award to be £5668- a fantastic contribution.
