Born To Write 2019

After the success of last year, we are delighted to be launching the St Mary’s Shaftesbury Born to Write Competition for 2019.

This will be the third year we have run this exciting creative writing competition and, due to popular demand from prep and primary schools, we have opened up the age category to all pupils from Years 4-9.

We are looking for short stories up to 500 words long, based on the theme of ‘Space’. Entries must be typed and will be judged on plot, characterisation, point of view, style, use of language and originality.

There will be three prizes – one for a pupil in Year 4 to 6 (£25), one in Year 7 to 9 (£25) and an overall winner (£50).  The winners will be presented with book tokens at our prize giving ceremony in the early evening of Wednesday 6th March 2019 at St Mary’s School.  We are delighted to announce that journalist, BBC presenter and Wellcome Book Prize judge, Razia Iqbal, will be taking part in the judging, as well as presenting prizes at the ceremony.

Once again, the Blackmore Vale Magazine will be supporting the event and will print a photograph of the winners alongside an excerpt of the winning story, with the full piece published on their website.

The closing date for entries is Friday 25th January, and the finalists will be notified by Friday 15th February.
