Abbey Primary Visit St Mary’s for Science Day

Coloured flames, explosions and magically-producing fire from glowing embers – not a visit to Hogwarts, but Ms Flower’s science workshop with Abbey Primary School Year 6 pupils.

In reality the pupils from Abbey School were being ‘chemical analysts’ investigating elements by observing how they react, noting their state (solid, liquid or gas), colour or other physical property. Favourite elements were:

“Lithium for burning with a lovely lilac flame.”

“Mercury because it was so heavy – it was really cool!”

“Hydrogen because mine made the biggest explosion!”

The children loved the delicious lunch offered in the Ref and went back to school with their lab reports, certificates and goody bags.
